Aspen Specialist

The candidate will be proficient at using AspenPlus Modeling for modeling chemical process from the ground up preferably with version 7.2 or greater. This includes comprehensive material and heat balances, separations processes, recycled streams, heat and mass transfer operations and also additional intricacy where required to express engineering assumptions by whatever required mechanism, i.e. restricted equilibrium or appropriate design rule in the model. Examples of engineering assumptions include percent conversion or Fortran expressions to express specified relationships between components.

Familiarity and experience using Aspen Energy Analyzer is also an added plus. This involves exporting the AspenOne Plus model into the Energy Analyzer and parsing out each heat stream based on heat quality.

Efforts will also require class collaboration and communication with management, other engineers and outside contractors where appropriate.

Specific responsibilities:

Process Modeling.

Instructing other engineers and researchers in using Aspen effectively.

Process optimization using Aspen

Data analysis

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience

BS or MS degree in Chemical Engineering, preferable with a minimum of 5 years experience using Aspen Plus in a chemical production or plant environment.

Previous experience in process development or “hands on” experience as a process engineer.

Strong understanding of entering reaction kinetic and material property data into Aspen Plus.

Strong teamwork and communications skills.

Detail design is in progress with ground breaking before the end of the year

Qualifications

BS Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

Minimum 2-5 years’ experience as Plant Process Engineer for an operating refining, petrochemical, chemical or industrial plant

An in depth understanding of process design principles and a working knowledge of the design and maintenance of all types of process equipment; experience with bubble columns and solids handling is a plus

Registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas or other state is a plus

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function as a team member and interact informatively with management

Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to act independently

Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to communicate to all levels of employees and contractors

Ability and willingness to travel, when required
